This page describes the behavior of alexkan.xyz, Alex Kan's personal website. You can read its pages without creating an account or submitting a form. The site does not include an advertising tracker or a visitor analytics script. The source is available in the xyz repository.

Browser preferences

When you change the light or dark theme, the site saves your choice in your browser's local storage under the key theme. The theme script reads that preference on later visits. You can remove it by clearing site data in your browser. The theme choice is not sent to a server by this script.

Hosting and external connections

Cloudflare Workers serves the website, and Cloudflare R2 stores the images used by the random-cig feature. Hosting and diagnostic logs may process request information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, and browser headers. Cloudflare's infrastructure policies and account settings govern that processing; this page does not specify a retention period.

The Projects page connects to istheldown.com for live transit data and loads the visualization library from jsDelivr, with unpkg as a fallback. Those services receive the network requests needed to provide that content. Links to GitHub, LinkedIn, and other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices. These connections are separate from the browser's saved theme preference.
